What is Spine?
Spine runs a small service or project business — a contractor, an interior design studio, a fabricator, an electrical or plumbing firm, a maintenance company — from one place, on your own server.
It follows the way the work actually flows:
Enquiry → Quote → Job → Invoice → Payment → Books
- Sales: contacts, a lead pipeline, meetings, a catalogue of what you sell, and quotes your customers read and accept online.
- Jobs: an accepted quote becomes a job with milestones, variations, a crew, costs and retention. Invoice it as the work is done.
- Billing: invoices, credit notes, payments, statements and automatic reminders, with tax on every line (including GST in India).
- Purchases: vendor bills, expenses with receipts and approvals, and vendor payments.
- Books: every document posts its own balanced entries, so your profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow, aging and job profitability are always current. You never type a debit or a credit. Export to Tally when your accountant needs it.
- The field app: your crew see their jobs, mark milestones done, take site photos and send expenses from their phones, even without signal.
- Your team: Owners, office Staff (with rights set by Teams) and Field crew each see what they need, and nobody sees what they shouldn’t.
Your server, your data
Section titled “Your server, your data”Spine is free, open-source software (AGPL-3.0). You run it on your own machine or a server you rent, with Docker. Your data never leaves it: there’s no account with us, no telemetry, and nothing calls home except an optional daily check for a new version. Backups, restores and upgrades are each one command.
Install Spine in 5 minutes, then follow First steps after install.
