Apply customer credit to an invoice

When a customer has credit — a deposit, an overpayment, money moved off an invoice, or the extra on a credit note — you can apply it to one of their invoices. The invoice’s balance drops and their credit drops by the same amount. No money moves; it’s credit they already hold being put to use.

  1. Open the payment — Go to Payments and open a payment marked Credit left. Press the Credit to use card to find them quickly.

  2. Press Apply credit — While credit is left it’s the main button. The Apply credit dialog says how much credit the payment holds.

  3. Choose the invoices — Pick an invoice and enter how much to put on it, or use Apply to another invoice… to spread it over several. Remaining credit updates as you go.

  4. Apply it — Press Apply credit. The toast reads Credit applied.

  1. Open the invoice — Open the customer’s issued invoice and press Apply credit.

  2. Enter the amounts — The dialog lists each source of credit, from payments and credit notes, with how much is available. Enter how much to take from each.

  3. Apply it — Press Apply credit. The toast says how much credit now counts against the invoice.

You can also apply credit from an invoice’s row in Receivables, while the customer has credit. When you issue a new invoice for a customer with credit, Spine offers to apply it as the invoice is issued.

  • You can’t apply more than the credit available, or more than the invoice still owes.
  • If the customer has no outstanding issued invoices, there’s nothing to apply credit to. You can refund the credit instead.
  • Applying credit from a paid deposit to the final invoice is how the deposit counts against the work.
