Charge the right GST on a document
On an Indian GST business, every quote, invoice, credit note and vendor bill has a place of supply. Spine compares it with your own state to choose each line’s tax: CGST + SGST within your state, IGST outside it. You don’t pick the split by hand.
Give items both taxes and a code
Section titled “Give items both taxes and a code”On each catalogue item, set the Intra-state tax (same state as your business) and the Inter-state tax (another state, export or SEZ), and the HSN/SAC code: 4, 6 or 8 digits. Anything else shows “Enter 4, 6 or 8 digits.” A catalogue import maps an HSN/SAC column too.
Check the place of supply
Section titled “Check the place of supply”- Choose the customer and address — On the draft, Place of supply fills in with the state from the site or shipping address, or else the billing address. A line under it says where it came from.
- Change it if needed — Pick another state.
- Add lines — In your state, an item uses its intra-state tax. In another state, overseas or SEZ, it uses its inter-state tax.
- Check any warnings — If you change the place of supply on a draft between intra- and inter-state, every line still on the item’s default switches. Lines you changed by hand keep their tax and show “Check this line’s tax — the place of supply changed.”
Each line copies the item’s HSN/SAC code, and you can change it on the line. Vendor bills follow the same rule: a vendor in another state gets inter-state tax.
Issue it
Section titled “Issue it”If an invoice for a registered business has lines with no HSN/SAC code, Spine asks “Issue without HSN/SAC codes?” and says how many lines have no code, because GSTR-1 needs them. Add the codes, or issue it as it is.
What the PDF shows
Section titled “What the PDF shows”- The title Tax Invoice, or Bill of Supply when every line is exempt or non-taxable.
- Your GSTIN and state, the customer’s GSTIN when they’re registered, and “Place of supply” with the state and its code.
- The HSN/SAC code on each line, and the tax split as CGST and SGST, or IGST, with rates.
- For exports, a note that the supply is meant for export and the overseas address.
- A credit note shows the same details plus the original invoice’s number and date.
- An HSN-wise tax summary table after the lines, when Tax summary table is on in Settings › Documents.
Without a GST profile none of this shows, and documents look as they do elsewhere.
