Move a lead through the pipeline

As a lead progresses, move it to the next stage so the board and its totals stay true. When a lead closes, Spine asks why it was lost, or offers to start the quote for a lead you’ve won.

Who can do this

Owners. Staff need Create/edit own leads to move leads they created, and Edit others’ leads for the rest. Deleting needs Delete own leads or Delete others’ leads. Starting a quote from a won lead needs Create/edit own quotes.

Move a lead

1. Find the lead — Go to Pipeline and find its card.
2. Move it — Drag the card to another column. Or open the card’s ⋯ menu, choose Move to… and pick the stage.
3. Check the totals — Both columns’ counts and totals update, and a toast says “Moved to …”.

To move a lead with the keyboard, press Tab until the card is focused, open its menu with the menu key, and choose Move to…. You can also open the lead’s drawer and change its Stage.

If you can’t change a lead, you see “You can’t move this lead.” and it stays where it was.

When a lead is lost

When you move a lead to a Lost stage, Spine asks Why was it lost?

1. Choose a reason — Choose Price, Timing, Went with a competitor, No response or Other.
2. Add a note — Optionally, add a Note (optional).
3. Save it — Press Save reason. A “Lead marked lost” toast shows with the reason. Or press Skip to move the lead without one; you can add the reason later in the lead’s drawer.

The reason shows on the card and in the drawer. If the lead later moves back to an open or Won stage, its lost reason is cleared.

When a lead is won

When you move a lead to a Won stage, a dialog says “Won — …” with the lead’s contact, value and owner. Press Create quote to start a quote for the contact, in the lead’s currency. The quote says which lead it’s for, and it’s listed in the lead’s Quotes. Press Not now to carry on without one.

Without the right to create quotes, there’s no quote offer. To build the quote, see Quotes.

Delete a lead

1. Choose Delete — Open the card’s ⋯ menu and choose Delete, or press Delete in the lead’s drawer.
2. Confirm — Spine asks “Delete this lead?”. Press Delete lead to go ahead, or Cancel.

Deleting a lead can't be undone

The lead’s follow-ups and activities are deleted with it. The contact and any quotes stay. To keep a record of a lead you didn’t win, move it to Lost instead.
